The Portuguese Postal Service, CTT, has commenced receiving letters addressed to Santa Claus, typically marked with destinations such as “North Pole” or “Lapland,” and anticipates approximately 170,000 letters this year, announced the company on Wednesday, December 10.
“All letters will be answered, but it is important they include the sender’s address so that CTT knows where to send the reply,” emphasized the postal service in a statement, noting these letters “can be sent without a stamp.”
CTT began responding to letters addressed to Santa Claus in 1985. This initiative, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, started from the spontaneous mailing of letters by children, left in mailboxes.
Each year, the company “creates a kind of ‘Santa’s office’ and assembles a team dedicated full-time to ensure that all children receive a reply.”
The initiative was also highlighted on Instagram, with CTT stating: “Turn children’s dreams into magical letters to Santa! Let their imagination fly to the North Pole and make this season more special and unforgettable. All letters will be answered so that each child feels the true magic of Christmas!”
