D. Maria II Theatre premieres ‘Is There Room for One More?’ in Ourém

The initiative aims to promote critical thinking and empower professionals in education and culture working with children in that age group, the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II explained in a statement.

With a text by Inês Fonseca Santos and Maria João Cruz, directed by Catarina Requeijo, and performances by Beatriz Jacinto, Mafalda Cardoso Pereira, and Mariana Fonseca, the story revolves around two cats living in a house for a long time, who become suspicious of a dog that has recently moved in with them as the environment is so different.

“The dog tries to adapt and doesn’t mind living like a cat. But it seems that there is no more room in that house. Or is there room for one more?” the synopsis questions.

‘Cabe mais um?’ was developed throughout 2025 with the artistic communities of Lagos, Ourém, and Ponte de Lima, the project’s partner municipalities.

Initially, from Monday to April 4, performances are scheduled in kindergartens in Ourém. On March 30, two family sessions are planned at the Teatro Municipal de Ourém.

The show is part of the ‘Boca aberta’ project, an initiative by Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in collaboration with Fundação La Caixa, BPI, and in partnership with the Plano Nacional das Artes and the municipalities of Ourém, Lagos, and Ponte de Lima, where the performance will also be shown in family sessions and in kindergartens in October and November.

Parallel to ‘Cabe mais um?’, the same communities worked on the show ‘Não se pode! Não se pode!’, premiering in May.

Within the scope of ‘Boca aberta’, the three participating councils will host the Oficina Boca Aberta, which, from this March to May, will challenge the creativity of kindergarten educators, teachers, and support staff, seeking to enrich their skills through performing arts.

In the last quarter, the Conversas de Boca Aberta are scheduled, aiming to reflect on and enhance the relationships between cultural and educational institutions by sharing experiences, practices, and knowledge, as reported by Teatro Nacional D. Maria II.
