The film “Mau por um momento”, by Portuguese director Daniel Soares, has been selected for the official short film competition at the Cannes Film Festival in France, it was announced today.
Daniel Soares’ film, which will have its world premiere in Cannes in May, is produced by The Sound and the Fury and Kid With a Bike.
“A team-building event goes wrong and forces the owner of an architecture studio to face the reality of the popular neighborhood that his company is gentrifying,” says the synopsis.
Daniel Soares, a German-born director, photographer and screenwriter, is also the author of other short films, including the award-winning “O que resta” (2021) and “Please make it work” (2022).
“Bad for a moment” is in the official short film competition at Cannes, in the same section that awarded the Palme d’Or in 2009 to “Arena”, by João Salaviza.
Also in this year’s competition is the Brazilian production “Amarela”, by André Hayato Saito.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 25 and also features other Portuguese films.
In the feature film competition, also in contention for the Palme d’Or, is “Grand Tour”, by Miguel Gomes, while in the Critics’ Week, one of the parallel programs, is the short film “My sensations are all I have to offer”, by Isadora Neves Marques.
In the Filmmakers’ Fortnight, another of the parallel programs, there will be the feature film “A Savana e a Montanha”, by Paulo Carneiro, and the short films “Quando a terra fuge”, by Frederico Lobo, and “O jardim em movimento”, by Inês Lima.
A co-production with Portugal will also feature the film “Algo viejo, algo nuevo, algo prestado”, by Argentine director Hermán Rosselli.
