The festivities under the theme ‘Come to São João’ are set to begin this Sunday with the Sardine Festival, lasting until June 10, a national holiday, as announced by local authorities in a statement today.
The Feira das Freguesias will follow from June 13 to 24, showcasing local groups and the cuisine of the 14 parishes in the municipality, along with various initiatives and musical concerts.
Musical performances will kick off on June 13 with Némanus, and continue on June 14 with Romana. Sons do Minho will perform on June 20, with Pedro Abrunhosa taking the stage the following day.
Paulo Gonzo will entertain audiences on June 22, and on June 23, São João night, Brazilian artist Daniela Mercury, known for hits like Nobre Vagabundo, promises to enliven this side of the Atlantic after the popular marches parade along the city’s waterfront.
On June 24, Figueira da Foz Municipal Holiday, the Anjos will close the musical program, which is also marked by the ceremony for awarding honorary distinctions and a tribute to São João, featuring a mass and procession culminating at the Mondego River with the Blessing of the Sea.
Among these celebrations, the events include the Most Beautiful Race in Portugal, taking place from Quiaios Beach to the Torre do Relógio on the city’s waterfront on June 15, and the Most Crazy Regatta of Mondego on June 21.
