The deadline for submitting the annual Corporate Income Tax return (Modelo 22) ends today, after being extended due to the impact of the power outage reported at the end of April.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on June 9, the government announced the deadline extension, considering the evaluation of the power outage’s effects on taxpayers’ compliance with tax obligations.
“As announced on April 29, following the general power supply interruption that affected the entire Iberian Peninsula, the government has been evaluating the effects on tax compliance, making necessary adjustments to the tax calendar,” the statement noted.
Despite more than 380,000 Modelo 22 returns being submitted by June 4, “the government found that only about 60% of the returns filed last year had been submitted,” the communiqué added.
In light of these figures, the government decided to extend the deadline for submitting the annual Corporate Income Tax return until June 30, which had initially been extended to June 16.
Additionally, the submission of the Simplified Business Information (IES) can be made until July 25, according to the same statement from the ministry headed by Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, providing companies with an additional 10 days to fulfill this declarative obligation.
