Information provided to Lusa by the Coimbra sub-regional command indicated a tragic head-on collision resulted in two fatalities and two critical injuries at the Porto Coelheiro crossing, an area lacking a central divider.
Two individuals were pronounced dead at the accident scene, which occurred around 07:20, by the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) team from Coimbra’s local health unit.
The two critically injured were transported to the University Hospitals of Coimbra, but one succumbed to injuries “either en route to the hospital or shortly after arrival,” according to the Coimbra sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
