The Portuguese consumer protection association has reported numerous complaints from users who signed up for DAZN’s “1 Month Free” campaign. These consumers were later informed that they were bound to an annual subscription with monthly payments after the initial free period.
Many consumers understood the offer as a monthly subscription without any binding period and claimed they were not clearly informed about the contract’s duration or the cancellation conditions. Some also stated they were not allowed to exercise their 14-day legal right of cancellation.
The association reviewed the platform’s terms and conditions, noting that when no minimum term is specified, the subscription lasts indefinitely and can be canceled with a 30-day notice. However, if there is a minimum term, such as 12 months, it must be clearly indicated at the time of subscription.
The association has contacted DAZN Portugal to request clarification and to ensure compliance with consumer information and rights obligation, adding that it will continue to monitor the situation.
A DAZN official clarified that the indicated campaign grants the first month of free access to those subscribing to the annual service, with the following 11 months priced at 17.99 euros per month.
The company insists that the campaign’s conditions are publicly available on their website and that users are required to confirm acceptance of these conditions before completing their subscription.
DAZN further emphasizes its commitment to transparency and clarity, ensuring all users have the necessary information to make an informed decision when subscribing.
