The issue at hand concerns a 2016 directive on reducing national emissions of certain air pollutants, whose communication guidelines have been revised.
The decree-law published today fulfills the new information requirements, amending the law that had been approved in 2018, following the directive.
The document recalls that the deadline given to Member States to transpose the amendment ended on December 31 of last year, prompting the European Union to initiate an “infringement procedure for failure to transpose the directive.”
“In this circumstance, it becomes urgent and necessary to approve the present decree-law to ensure full compliance with European Union law and to guarantee the closure of the infringement process,” the decree states, which amends two annexes of the 2018 document to align with the “delegated directive” 2024/299.
In December, the European Commission announced that it had launched an infringement process against Portugal for failures in transposing the directive relating to emissions of certain pollutants.
