In 2025, Bruno Nogueira, Manuela Azevedo, Filipe Melo, Nuno Rafael, and Nelson Cascais will celebrate the 12th anniversary of ‘Deixem o Pimba em Paz’. The celebration is set to be extraordinary, featuring a series of 12 concerts at the Maria Matos Theater in Lisbon from June 24 to July 16, with 12 special guests, as announced in a statement.
The project first debuted in 2013, winning over audiences with “an irreverent reinterpretation of the ‘pimba’ repertoire, touring across Portugal from north to south, including the islands, and even crossing borders to the United States and Brazil.”
“It’s no coincidence that at a party in Quinta do Lago, at the first chords of a Quim Barreiros song, there will be a rush of people to the dance floor, singing the chorus in cheerful and loud voices. The same reaction can be expected if someone plays the same song during a barbecue in Massamá. The crowd might be smaller, but the cheerful and loud refrain will have the same energy,” Bruno Nogueira stated in the announcement.
“There is another connection between Quinta do Lago and Massamá: few residents of these places know more than just the chorus. It’s a pity because the best parts are rarely in the refrain. Nonetheless, there are few topics that connect people with such diverse tastes so intimately. I’ve always been fascinated by the ‘pimba’ universe. Completely, with its lyrics, music, clothes, choreography, etc… This show aims to give new life to these songs by bringing together musicians who have arranged them in jazz and pop styles where they were least expected. Thus, Manuela Azevedo (lead singer of Clã) will join us to bring these themes to life. Along with us are the songs of Quim Barreiros, Ágata, Marante, and Marco Paulo, among others. ‘Deixem o Pimba em Paz’ is a concert and a show of deconstruction. And that’s quite something,” as further noted by Bruno Nogueira.
