Delays in the execution of the PRR? Castro Almeida summoned to Parliament

The parliamentary groups of Chega and PS have submitted requests that were approved today by the Committee on Economy and Territorial Cohesion, as confirmed by Pedro Coimbra (PS), who presides over the committee.

In addition to Castro Almeida, who is expected to appear according to the two requests, the president of the Portugal Recovery Task Force, Fernando Alfaiate, and the president of the National PRR Monitoring Commission, Pedro Dominguinhos, will also be summoned.

Besides the PRR, the Portugal 2030 program, currently in its initial phase of implementation, is also set to be discussed.

In late June, the European Commission issued a preliminary favorable opinion on Portugal’s sixth payment request under the NextGenerationEU program.

This request, submitted on November 14, 2024, was approved following the successful completion of 32 milestones and targets established in the PRR.

On June 26, Portugal submitted its seventh payment request to Brussels, which includes 21 milestones and targets related to investments and six to reforms.

The seventh payment request under the PRR is valued at 1.064 billion euros, after deducting the pre-financing.

With the submission of the 27 milestones and targets of this seventh payment request, the execution rate of the PRR, scheduled to conclude in mid-2026, increases to 47%.

The PRR, with a completion timeframe extending to 2026, aims to implement a series of reforms and investments to recover economic growth.

This plan is designed not only to address the damage caused by Covid-19 but also to support investments and generate employment.
