Delfins celebrate 40 years of career today with sold-out concert in Lisbon

The Delfins are celebrating 40 years of their career, which has included songs such as “Nasce Selvagem”, “Sou como um rio” and “Baía de Cascais”, with a concert in Lisbon, which is already sold out.

The Delfins appeared in 1984, although the group started forming a few years earlier, and are one of the most successful Portuguese pop bands of the 1990s.

The group’s debut album, “Libertação”, which includes a version of “Canção do engate” by António Variações, was released in 1987, while their latest, “Babilónia”, dates from 2002.

Among the many songs they have created are “Aquele Inverno”, “1 Lugar ao Sol”, “Nasce Selvagem”, “Ao Passar Um Navio”, “A Queda de um Anjo”, “Soltem os Prisioneiros”, “Sou Como Um Rio” and “Saber Amar”.

In 2022 they returned to the stage, more than ten years after the band’s last concert, on December 31, 2009, in Cascais, where they are from.

The comeback was supposed to happen in 2020, but the covid-19 pandemic ended up postponing it by two years, and it ended up happening at the Rock in Rio Lisboa festival.

Today, Miguel Angelo, Fernando Cunha, Luís Sampaio, Rui Fadigas, Jorge Quadros and Dora Fidalgo perform at the Meo Arena, which is sold out.

Before the Delfins take the stage, Duque Província will perform, one of the bands featured on the compilation “A Nossa Vez – As Canções dos Delfins”, which has been made available online on digital platforms.

The album brings together “ten contemporary artists, almost all of them born after the Delfins’ songs came into the world, who were challenged to rewrite the band’s pop manual”.

Duque Província revisited “Aquele Inverno”, André Amaro “A cor azul”, Beatriz Rosário “Sou como um rio”, Capital da Bulgária “Nasce selvagem”, Curt Davis “Não vou ficar”, D’Alva “Num sonho teu”, Domingues “1 lugar ao sol”, Gui Aly “Ao passar um navio”, João Maia Ferreira “Saber amar” and Xtinto “Baía de Cascais”.
