Demolitions in Loures suspended. City council reviews court order

The information was provided to the Lusa news agency at 10:50 a.m., with the demolition suspension confirmed by the Vida Justa movement, which has been supporting the residents.

In statements to Lusa, a member of the movement and a municipal deputy on the ground mentioned that demolitions resumed at “8:00 a.m., with at least four houses demolished,” although the machines have since stopped.

The Administrative Court of Lisbon decreed, in an order on Monday night, that the Loures City Council is “prohibited from executing the demolition act” of homes in the Bairro do Talude Militar.

The court provisionally accepted the “injunction to suspend the effectiveness of the administrative act”—that is, home demolitions—filed by a lawyer representing 14 neighborhood residents in the Lisbon district.

The order further states that “the requested entity [the Loures City Council] is prohibited from executing the demolition act and must refrain from any conduct that jeopardizes and/or contradicts the determination now made.”

The court considers “the situation of special urgency verified,” ordering its decision to be “immediately and expeditiously” notified.
