The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a statement indicating that depression Davide will cause significant west/northwest waves up to 5.5 meters high until Sunday morning.
The maritime agitation is expected to temporarily decrease during Sunday and until the mid-afternoon of Monday.
Additionally, persistent and occasionally heavy rain is forecasted from the end of today and until mid-afternoon Saturday in Minho and Douro Litoral, as well as the districts of Aveiro, Vila Real, and Viseu.
The IPMA has issued a yellow warning for the districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, and Braga, particularly in mountainous areas, from midnight to 3:00 PM on Saturday.
The depression Davide will not impact the Madeira archipelago.
Due to the maritime agitation, IPMA had already issued warnings for the entire Portuguese coast for today and the weekend.
All coastal districts of Portugal are under a yellow warning until 9:00 PM today.
An orange warning has been issued for the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga between noon and 6:00 PM Saturday, transitioning to yellow until 6:00 AM Sunday.
Faro, Setúbal, and Beja are under yellow warning until 6:00 PM today and again from noon Saturday until 3:00 AM Sunday due to wave conditions.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation,” and yellow is issued when there is a “risk situation for certain weather-dependent activities.”
Due to the sea state, the maritime bars of Caminha, Douro, Esposende, Vila Praia de Âncora, Póvoa do Varzim, Vila do Conde, and Portinho da Ericeira are closed to all navigation, while those in Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, and Figueira da Foz are restricted, according to information from the National Maritime Authority’s website.
