The Deputy Secretary-General of the Internal Security System, Manuel Vieira, has been relieved of his duties “at his own request,” as stated in an official decree signed by the Prime Minister and published today in the Diário da República.
The decree, signed by Luís Montenegro on March 19, will become effective next Monday.
“I hereby relieve, at his request, Manuel António da Silva Vieira from his position as Deputy Secretary-General of the Internal Security System,” the Prime Minister noted in the decree, publicly praising Vieira for his “high sense of public service and commitment demonstrated during his tenure.”
Manuel Vieira, who previously served as the chief of staff for the former Secretary-General of the Internal Security System Paulo Vizeu Pinheiro, was appointed to the position of Deputy Secretary-General in August following a joint proposal by the Ministers of Internal Administration and Justice.
Vieira had temporarily acted as Secretary-General until the appointment of the new Secretary-General, Patrícia Barão, in November 2024.
