The alleged perpetrator, who was arrested in the act on Wednesday, appeared before the Matosinhos Court, which ordered pre-trial detention as a coercive measure.
In a statement, the GNR clarified that after a domestic violence report, officers conducted police procedures revealing that “the assailant was committing physical and psychological violence through assaults and threats against his 73-year-old mother.”
The GNR emphasized that domestic violence is a public crime and that reporting such incidents is a collective responsibility.
This type of crime should be reported via various channels, including the Electronic Complaint Portal, by phone through 112, at the nearest GNR post, and through the MAI112 and SMS Segurança apps, both designed for deaf citizens.
