The announcement released today indicates that three applications will be selected to advance to the next stage by a jury including director and scenographer João Brites, director Joana Craveiro, scenographer Luís Santos, and senior technician at DGArtes Ágata Sequeira.
“Following the selection of the three proposals that best meet the parameters, according to the working group, the respective entities will be invited by DGArtes to develop the application, based on the selected proposal,” the document states.
The annual statement from DGArtes notes that the competition for the Prague Quadrennial, which was supposed to open by the end of September, includes a total of 220,000 euros.
In the previous edition of the Prague Quadrennial, the project representing Portugal, “Metade dos Minutos” by Ângela Rocha, was awarded a prize that “allowed children to vote on the installation/exhibition they found most exciting.”
The upcoming edition of this event dedicated to scenography will feature Portuguese architect, scenographer, and cultural mediator Sara Franqueira as curator.
In addition to Sara Franqueira, the curatorial team for this exhibition includes Brazilian Renato Bolelli Rebouças, Briton Rachel Hann, Chilean Pedro Gramegna Ardiles, and Czechs Markéta Fantová, Pavel Drábek, and Anna Hejmová, as per a statement from the organization’s initiative released in July.
The Prague Quadrennial is the largest international exhibition and festival dedicated to scenography, performance design, and performance space, set to take place from June 8 to 17, 2027, at the newly renovated exhibition grounds in Prague, returning after an eight-year hiatus.
