DGArtes. Quadrennial support renewed to the vast majority of entities

Out of the 135 entities that received support in the 2023-25 cycle, 125 will continue to receive it in 2027-2030, as announced by DGArtes in a statement released today.

The possibility of renewing four-year support for an equal period in the Sustained Support Program became available with the introduction of the new arts support model in 2021.

DGArtes noted that “the submission period for applications, which ran from June 2 to July 30, allowed, for the first time, the beneficiary entities of the Quadrennial Sustained Support Program to request the renewal of support through the DGArtes electronic support management platform.”

Entities that had their support renewed include the Associação Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos, Ballet Teatro Contemporâneo do Porto, Companhia de Teatro de Braga, Teatro do Bolhão, Escola da Noite – Grupo de Teatro de Coimbra, Associação Cultural e Recreativa de Tondela, Ciclo de Artes Plásticas da Academia de Coimbra, Teatro das Beiras, Alkantara Associação Cultural, Artistas Unidos, Associação Zé dos Bois, Companhia Olga Roriz, Comuna — Teatro de Pesquisa, Escola de Mulheres, Fórum Dança, PRAGA — Associação Cultural, Teatro da Garagem, Associação Materiais Diversos, Companhia de Dança de Almada, OUT.RA – Associação Cultural, Associação Cultural Sete Sóis Sete Luas, Companhia de Dança Contemporânea de Évora, Anda&Fala – Associação Cultural, and Dançando com a Diferença.

DGArtes emphasized that this non-competitive procedure aims to provide greater stability in planning activities and structuring entities while reinforcing a relationship of trust and mutual recognition of the role of arts support in territorial dynamization.

The monitoring committees were responsible for verifying “the fulfillment of the artistic and cultural objectives that led to the initial granting of support, as well as the correspondence in the activity plan with the objectives of public cultural interest.”

Earlier this month, representative associations from the Culture sector requested the authorities to annually update the values of sustained support in the quadrennial modality to match the inflation rate.

In a letter sent to the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, published on November 4, the boards of Plateia – Associação de Profissionais das Artes Cénicas, Performart – Associação para as Artes Performativas em Portugal, Rede – Associação para a Dança Contemporânea, and A Descampado – Companhias, Espaços e Territórios “proposed that the funding levels defined for the previous cycle (2023 – 2026), still in force, be updated based on INE indicators and estimates by the Public Finance Council,” which these associations believe “should be 10.6%.”

Additionally, Plateia, Performart, Rede, and A Descampado propose that this update “is reflected in the reference thresholds for upcoming sustained support competitions, ensuring equity between already supported entities and those that may apply, along with project supports.”
