The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) confirmed today the existence of a new case of measles in the northern region, of a 29-year-old woman who is clinically stable and out of the infectious period.
Since January 11, eight cases of measles have been confirmed: two in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region and six in the north, the directorate-general said in a statement.
The DGS says that the 20-year-old woman has a history of traveling abroad during the incubation period of the disease, with no known link to the cases confirmed this year.
The case was laboratory confirmed by the Instituto Nacional de Saúde Doutor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).
In the statement, the directorate-general adds that it is, together with the network of health authorities, INSA and health professionals, “monitoring the evolution of the situation in accordance with the provisions of the National Measles Elimination Program, with a focus on confirming suspected cases and contact tracing”.
Taking the opportunity to call for vaccination in accordance with the National Vaccination Program, the national health authority also recommends that if someone has been in contact with a suspected case of measles, or if they have symptoms, they should call the health line 808242424.
