The General Directorate of Health (DGS), in collaboration with the Portuguese Psychologists Association (OPP) and the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), aims to enhance work-life balance and support the physical and emotional rehabilitation of firefighters, particularly after fighting rural fires.
The document “Firefighter Operations in Family” seeks to “contribute to better management of the challenges associated with the firefighter profession, recognizing the impact that prolonged absences, unpredictable schedules, and constant safety concerns can have on family life.”
The document “Physical and Emotional Rehabilitation of Firefighters after Fighting Rural Fires” is intended to support the physical and emotional recovery of professionals on the front lines during fires.
These practical guidelines aim to provide more effective rehabilitation after situations of significant physical and psychological strain, promoting well-being and enhancing response capabilities and resilience.
Recommending professional support, the DGS suggests that firefighters can use the Psychological Support Line of SNS24 (808 24 24 24), seek psychological support teams (EAPS) of ANEPC (ap****************@****iv.pt or 214 247 100), and find a psychologist.
