The Angolan state has generated $15.5 million (€13.1 million) from the auction of 17 special rough diamonds, exceeding expectations by 24.33%, according to the company managing the sale.
A statement from the National Diamond Trading Company of Angola (Sodiam E.P) indicated that the auctioned diamonds were produced by the Lulo, Kaixepa, Chitotolo, and Luele Mining Companies, and the total net value raised came from the sale of 865.19 carats.
The report detailed that the sale of special diamonds from the Lulo mine generated $8.4 million (€7.1 million), with the Luele mine earning $6.2 million (€5.2 million), and the Kaixepa mine garnering $928,000 (€787,729).
“Two stones from the Chitotolo Mining Company were auctioned but not sold as the mine, for the third time, declined the received price offers,” the note emphasized.
The auction, held in late June, saw participation from 27 companies representing major global diamond centers.
According to Sodiam’s chairman, Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, as cited in the statement, “The results of this auction confirmed the improvements in terms of demand and prices recently observed in the market, which brings some comfort to national production in general and to mining companies in particular.”
“Sodiam and various institutions within the national diamond industry will continue to monitor market trends to better negotiate the selling prices of our diamonds,” stated Eugénio Bravo da Rosa.
