The National Republican Guard (GNR) has announced, through a press release, the capture of a 33-year-old man who was outside Vale do Sousa Prison, in the municipality of Águeda, without authorization.
The individual had been absent from the prison unlawfully since early August 2025 and was found on a public road by GNR officers during a patrol.
In the official note, GNR stated that the man was approached due to suspicious behavior.
Inquiries confirmed the existence of an arrest warrant for the enforcement of his prison sentence.
Authorities further noted that the detainee had not returned to the correctional facility after being granted a temporary release.
The man, convicted of aggravated drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons and ammunition, has been returned to Vale do Sousa Prison to serve the remaining six years and nine months of his sentence.
