The winger Diego Moreira, who finished his contract with Benfica, was officially signed by Chelsea today, without the English soccer league club having revealed the duration of the contract signed with the Portuguese under-21 international.

In a statement released on the official website, the ‘blues’ only gave notice of the signing of the striker from Benfica and recalling the career of the player, 18 years old, who represented Benfica since 2020, after passages through the youth teams of Standard Liège and Lierse, both in Belgium, where he was born.

Diego Moreira, son of former footballer Almani Moreira, made the pre-season with the main squad of the ‘reds’ a year ago, but ended up not settling in the team under Roger Schmidt.

In the three years he represented Benfica, he played a few minutes for the main team in two matches, in the last round of the I Liga 2021/22, against Paços de Ferreira, and against Midtjylland, in the third qualifying round of the Champions League last season.

During this period, he played mainly for the juniors and for the B and U-23 teams, having helped the ‘reds’ to win the UEFA Youth League in 2021/22 and the U-19 Intercontinental Cup in 2022.

In Chelsea, Diego Moreira, who is currently with the Portuguese national team in the European Under-21 Championship, will meet the former ‘eagles’ midfielder Enzo Fernández, in a squad that this season will be led by Mauricio Pochettino.
