
A 66-year-old man died this Saturday morning after suffering cardiac arrest near Salgado Beach in the Nazaré municipality.
The alert, recorded at 11:10 a.m., reported “a man falling near the beach,” as stated by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a press release.
The AMN indicated that “elements from the Nazaré Maritime Police Command and the Seawatch Project were immediately activated.” Additionally, members of the São Martinho do Porto and Alcobaça Volunteer Fire Departments, as well as from INEM, were mobilized.
Upon arrival, rescue teams found “the man in cardiac arrest, prompting São Martinho do Porto Volunteer Firefighters and INEM to perform resuscitation maneuvers.”
Unfortunately, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and INEM’s doctor declared the man’s death.
The Alcobaça Volunteer Firefighters transported the body to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Leiria.
The Psychological Office of the Maritime Police has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family.
The Nazaré Maritime Police Command is handling the incident.
