Claudino Jesus Borges Pereira, known as Dino D’Santiago, was born in December 1982, in Quarteira, Algarve, to Cape Verdean immigrants.
He grew up in the Fisherman’s Neighborhood of Quarteira, where his musical journey began, initially singing in the local church choir and later composing his own rap performances.
In 2003, like many Portuguese artists, he participated in the talent show “Operação Triunfo,” where he showcased his original music.
He later became involved in projects merging soul, hip-hop, and R&B, such as Dino & The SoulMotion, Nu Soul Family, and Expensive, collaborating with artists like Virgul, Sam The Kid, Tito Paris, Valete, and Pacman.
Dino D’Santiago released his first solo album, “Eva,” in 2013, followed by “Mundu Nôbu” (2018), “Kriola” (2020), and “Badiu” (2021).
He is one of the founders of the cultural development project “Sou Quarteira.”
He has been awarded the Medal of Merit from the Loulé City Council, has received accolades from the Cabo Verde Music Awards, and holds a record at the PLAY – Portuguese Music Awards. In 2010, the Nu Soul Family project won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Portuguese Act.
In 2023, the government awarded Dino D’Santiago the Cultural Merit Medal, “in recognition of his contribution to Portuguese-language music and its global outreach.”
Last year, he was nominated for a Latin Grammy for co-authoring and performing “Esperança.”
The song, written by Brazilian musicians Criolo and Amaro Freitas along with Brazilian producer Nave and Dino D’Santiago, was nominated for a Latin Grammy for “Best Portuguese Language Song.”
The track, performed by Dino D’Santiago, Criolo, and Amaro Freitas, was recorded between Portugal and Brazil and was released in May of the previous year.
