Diploma for regular advising of magistrates? For the “coming days”

“We expect to finalize this decree in the coming days, which will be a decree-law and will be shared with the members of parliament,” announced the government official in the Assembly of the Republic during the discussion of a government proposal that amends the Statutes of Judicial Magistrates and the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Law on the Organization of the Judicial System, among others.

In addition to paving the way for the creation of advisory offices aimed at “promoting procedural speed,” the bill also extends the recruitment base among appeal court judges for the Supreme Court.

The bill was welcomed by most parliamentary groups and single deputies, as was another bill that, according to Rita Alarcão Júdice, eliminates “the current in-person control mechanism for distribution operations.”

“It is unnecessary and generates inefficiencies in the functioning of the courts,” she emphasized.

The two bills were approved on July 3 by the Council of Ministers and, as decided today by the Assembly of the Republic with abstentions from the PCP and BE, will be voted on at the general, specialty, and final global stages on Friday.

The request for urgent processing came from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

These two bills had already been introduced to parliament in February during the previous legislature but were not discussed due to the fall of the government.
