Director of PJ warns: Violence against younger women is increasing

On the sidelines of a seminar on domestic violence held today at the PJ building, Luís Neves emphasized the need to combat violence against women, describing it as “absolutely intolerable.” He highlighted online games targeting women with the goal to violate, kill, and pursue them.

“This is absolutely unacceptable, especially when we are talking about young people,” said the national director of the PJ, citing three arrests made by this police force related to rape within just ten days.

“We are dealing with rapes involving very young people in close relationships. It is intolerable to have women as targets,” he added.

Luís Neves also discussed the investigation concerning the 17-year-old from Santa Maria da Feira, recently charged by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for multiple crimes, including inciting a massacre in Brazil in 2023.

This young individual, as described by the national director of the PJ, recruited and encouraged Brazilian youths online to carry out a mass attack at a school. The Polícia Judiciária is currently collaborating with the Federal Police in Brazil to identify all those responsible for the massacre that resulted in the death of a young woman.

Besides this massacre, the youth from Santa Maria da Feira, who lived with his parents and has been detained since last year, was reportedly planning to kill homeless people live to sell the footage via streaming.

“There were also sexual assaults on young women, teenagers, who were gang-raped, encouraged by the internet. These victims, who were doubly victimized, were then pressured to self-harm under the threat of having the images of the rapes disseminated,” Luís Neves explained regarding this youth from Santa Maria da Feira.

According to the national director of the Polícia Judiciária, these crimes “indicate a very specific focus on women, particularly young women, who are treated as objects, abused, assaulted, and violated.”
