Presidential candidate António José Seguro announced his first regional representative this Friday and commented on the decision to send the immigration law to the Constitutional Court, supporting the move by the head of state, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
“The President sent this law to the Constitutional Court because laws must respect the Constitution of the Republic and our fundamental values, principles, and rights. The President of the Republic acted appropriately,” he stated to journalists at Herdade do Esporão in Évora.
Emphasizing that immigration is a “sensitive” issue, Seguro noted that “all amendments must be made with balance, respecting civilizational values,” particularly the family. “All institutions and actors should be involved to contribute. These cannot be laws made in haste. I applaud the President’s initiative. I’ve disagreed with him many times,” he added.
Regarding his campaign, Seguro announced Miguel Bastos Araújo as the first regional representative to be announced. “He represents much of the authenticity of this candidacy. He is a Portuguese figure we are proud of, an excellent researcher. Having adopted the Alentejo, he has lived here for decades, restored this home, and through his scientific work, he emphasizes not only science in service of humanity but also the projection of a citizen who views the world as needing sustainability for viability.”
António José Seguro described Miguel Bastos Araújo’s vision as one of “excellence,” aligning with what he has “been saying.” “I want Portugal to be a fair and excellent country. There’s nothing more fitting than to enlist someone who expresses these values, who is concerned, who has his own ideas, and who I hope the Alentejo sees in this civic contribution that Miguel Bastos Araújo brings to this candidacy,” he asserted.
