The president of RTP asserted today that the decision regarding the dismissal of the television information management at the public station is exclusively under the authority of the Board of Directors, dismissing any political interference.
Nicolau Santos made these comments during the ‘Media Nation Debate’ panel, as part of the 34th APDC congress that began today at Culturgest in Lisbon, under the theme ‘Business & Science Working Together.’
On June 24, the television information management of RTP, led by António José Teixeira, was dismissed.
The dismissal of the information director “does not have to have a political interpretation,” stated the manager.
“It is exclusively under the competence of the RTP Board of Directors and has no political interference”, emphasized Nicolau Santos.
He highlighted that “companies have cycles” and that “António José Teixeira and his team performed a fantastic job,” indicating that a new phase has now commenced.
“It is not just the television director leaving, nor was it a target focused solely on the television information management; I hope to count on António José Teixeira at RTP,” he noted, suggesting that the journalist’s career “has gone through cycles and will surely face new challenges.”
