Disney investigated by U.S. regulator for promoting diversity

The two companies are under scrutiny as part of efforts by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in places like universities, government agencies, and major corporations.

“I am concerned that ABC and its parent company have promoted and may still be promoting forms of DEI in a manner that does not comply with FCC regulations,” wrote Brendan Carr in a letter addressed to the entertainment company, revealed on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Disney has prioritized the promotion of diversity and “apparently has done so in a way that has infected many aspects of its company’s decisions,” according to the official.

In February, Brendan Carr had already informed Comcast and NBC Universal about the investigations they faced due to their efforts regarding equality, thanking the President at that time for the efforts to “eradicate the scourge of DEI.”

Since his return to the White House in January, Donald Trump has been attempting to dismantle minority inclusion programs across all sectors of American society.

The Republican declared the programs illegal at the federal level and threatens to sue companies that implement them.

Earlier this month, historian Kevin Levin, an expert in the American Civil War, reported that Arlington National Cemetery had begun to erase the history of Black and Hispanic veterans and servicewomen from its site.

Descendants of Native Americans, who played a crucial role during World War II, expressed shock upon discovering that their contributions had been removed from public records.

In addition to federal institutions, several large American companies – including Google, Meta, Amazon, and McDonald’s – have either completely eliminated their DEI programs or significantly reduced them.

The measures originated from the civil rights movement of the 1960s, primarily led by African Americans, to promote equality and justice after centuries of slavery and racial segregation.

Currently, African Americans and other minorities continue to face disproportionate levels of police violence, detention, poverty, and hate crimes, according to official data.
