The 3rd edition of the Django Portugal festival takes place in June and July 2023, bringing to Lisbon, Coimbra, Évora, Beja, Elvas, Cascais and Sesimbra the sounds of Gypsy Jazz Manouche and Sinti. Every week there will be concerts, workshops and jam sessions for the whole family.

Marion & Sobo Band, Tim Kliphuis Quartet, Erik Kasten Y Carlos Torres and Hot Club International are the confirmed names.

French singer Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander Sobocinski present original compositions, chanson française, and arrangements of folk melodies. Marion sings in French, Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, Albaresh, Macedonian, and Romansh, and uses her voice as an improvisational instrument. A true social media phenomenon that has reached thousands of people with her exuberant rhythms. The Quintet is composed of voice, violin, guitars and double bass. They will perform on June 3 at Salão Brazil, Coimbra and the following day at the Orlando Ribeiro Auditorium in Lisbon.

Award-winning Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis has created an entirely new style that embraces classical, manouche jazz, and folk. Hailed as a “modern-day Paganini improviser,” his inclusive and innovative approach to music unites audiences and influences a new generation of string players. A sought-after educator and author of the best-selling “Gypsy Jazz Violin,” Tim is a professor of string improvisation at the Amsterdam Conservatory and director of the Grappelli-Django Camp summer school for manouche jazz. He has scheduled concerts on June 10 at Salão Brazil, Coimbra, on June 11 at Auditório Orlando Ribeiro in Lisbon and will give a workshop at Lagar de São Vicente in Telheiras.

Erik Kasten is a multi-instrumentalist, born in Guadalajara, a pioneer of manouche jazz in Mexico. Founder of bands like Smoke Rings Quartet and Hot Club De Guadalajara and active member of Zaikocirco, Kingsmith, and Popper. His presence in jazz festivals around the world has made him one of the most popular musicians in the country. Carlos Torres is a painter and musician who is a member of the jazz group Nathalie Braux, Mr. Buho Band and Los Byzantinos, and the Hot Club de Guadalajara. In 2020, the pandemic prevented the duo from participating in what would be the 1st edition of the Django Portugal Festival. Now in 2023, they are the headliners of the 3rd edition. The dates are June 17th at Salão Brazil, Coimbra and June 18th at Auditório Orlando Ribeiro, Lisbon.

Hot Club International is a Gyspy Jazz band composed of musicians from Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Ukrain

e and the Netherlands. The quintet was born in 2016 in Portugal, where the 5 friends from the 5 different countries got together to play the music of Django Reinhardt. The band performs the swing and jazz repertoire, adding traditional and popular songs from their countries, with the original formation of the Quintette du Hot Club de France. You can hear Hot Club International on July 13 at Armazém 8, Évora, the next day at Centro Unesco, Beja and finally on July 15 at Cine-Teatro Municipal in Elvas.
