Do you buy them? These were the three foods that rose in price the most this year.

The broccoli, ground roasted coffee, and oranges recorded the highest price increases since the beginning of the year, according to the weekly price monitoring released by DECO PROTeste, which also reports a slight rise in the price of the basic food basket this week.

The essential basket of 63 products costs this week 240.65 euros, an increase of 0.09 euros from the previous week, announced the consumer protection organization in a statement sent to newsrooms.

“Between September 3 and September 10, there is a difference of 0.09 euros when comparing the same basket on the two days (0.04%),” the statement reads.

Other price comparisons of the basket highlighted by DECO PROTeste:

  • Between January 1 and September 10, there is a difference of 4.48€ when comparing the same basket on the two days (1.90%);
  • Between September 11, 2024, and September 10, 2025, there is a difference of 13.05€ when comparing the same basket on the two days (5.73%);
  • Between January 5, 2022, and September 10, 2025, there is a difference of 52.95 € when comparing the same basket on the two days (28.21%).

“The typical return to routine in September has become more expensive: a year ago, on September 11, the shopping cart cost 13.05 euros less (5.73 percent less). And some of the products that make up a common breakfast saw the highest percentage price increase, both in the last week (see details below) and in the last year. Between September 11, 2024, and September 10, 2025, the products with the highest increases are on many breakfast tables: whole grain cereals (an increase of 1.28 € or 41%), ground roasted coffee (an increase of 1.55 € or 41%), and eggs (an increase of 0.57 € or 39 percent),” reads the note published on the consumer protection organization’s website.

Which products increased the most?

In the past week, between September 3 and September 10, the products with the highest percentage price increase were whole grain cereals, ground roasted coffee, pre-sliced packaged Flemish cheese, and crustless sandwich bread.

However, “if we compare the prices this week with those of the first week of the year, on January 1, 2025, the highest percentage price increase was observed in products such as broccoli (up 45%), ground roasted coffee (up 40%), oranges (up 31%), and eggs (up 28 percent).”

“Since DECO PROTeste began this analysis on January 5, 2022, the largest percentage increases were in beef for boiling (up 92%), eggs (up 81%), oranges (up 81%), and ground roasted coffee (up 78 percent),” it is further noted.

It should be noted that since January 2022, DECO PROTeste has been monitoring the evolution of essential food prices, analyzing every Wednesday the total cost of a basket, based on prices collected the previous day from major supermarkets with online stores.
