Do you have 7 minutes? That’s how long it takes to find out if you are entitled to any support.

The Social Security Institute has launched a social benefits simulator designed to determine eligibility for more than 60 different forms of support through an online questionnaire. The average completion time is about seven minutes.

“Discover the social security benefits and allowances you may be entitled to in a quick and simple manner, and learn how to apply for them. The results depend solely on the information you provide and are not binding,” states the Social Security portal.

Find out what you’ll need

According to the agency, certain information is required to answer the simulator’s questions accurately.

“The questions aim to determine the benefits/subsidies you may be eligible for, and all requested information is pertinent to specific social benefits, so it is crucial to answer accurately. You can view the simulation results by clicking the ‘Consultar Simulação’ button,” the portal explains.

  • Gross annual income value

“The gross annual income is the total monetary value earned by an individual annually before deductions, including salaries, investment returns, rental income, pensions, and social benefits. It equals the sum of all annual earnings before deductions. Income from young student-workers during school holidays or student-workers aged 27 or under, with an annual value not exceeding 14 times the minimum wage, should not be included,” it adds.

Where to find this information? “If you have submitted an IRS declaration, you can find your gross annual income there.”

  • Financial assets value

“Financial assets include bank deposits and other securities such as stocks, bonds, savings certificates, participation certificates, and shares in collective investment institutions. Indicate the value of the financial assets on the date of the benefit application,” explains Social Security.

  • Degree of disability or incapacity (if applicable)

“The degree of incapacity reflects the percentage of physical or mental disability, whether permanent or temporary, determining a person’s ability or inability to work,” it states.

Where to find this information? “The degree of incapacity can be verified in the Multi-Purpose Disability Certificate, which should be requested through a consultation appointment with the medical board at the Health Center.”

Also consider the following:

“If you live, work, or have worked abroad, the simulation results may not accurately reflect your specific situation. The benefits shown in the simulation results pertain to the person conducting the simulation and their dependents. Other household members need to simulate separately to determine their eligible benefits, such as unemployment benefits,” the portal notes.
