The government has decided to increase various family support allowances by 2.1%. It is anticipated that the updated amounts will be paid this month with retroactive effect.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security (MTSSS), the update covers the reference amounts for family allowance, prenatal family allowance, disability bonus, subsidy for assistance to the third person, increased benefits for single-parent situations and large families, and childhood guarantee.
For the funeral subsidy, the increase is 2.6%.
“These increases for 2025, aligned with the update of the Index of Social Supports (IAS), have a total impact amounting to 31.8 million euros,” stated the Ministry.
What are the new amounts?
Regarding family allowance, for the first income bracket, touching the lowest incomes, this update corresponds to an increase of 3.84 euros, reaching 186.87 euros per month for children aged 36 months or younger, while for children and teenagers older than 36 months, the amount rises by 1.51 euros, to 73.51 euros.

The ministry notes that the monthly amounts for the prenatal family allowance are updated to 186.87 euros for the 1st income bracket; 158.17 euros for the 2nd; 129.23 euros for the 3rd; and 86.53 euros for the 4th income bracket.
Meanwhile, the value of the funeral subsidy increases to 261.25 euros, equating to 50% of the Indexante dos Apoios Sociais (IAS).
The disability bonus will become 72.59 euros for those up to 14 years old; 105.73 euros for youths between 14 to 18 years old; and 141.52 euros for beneficiaries aged 18 to 24 years.
Lastly, the Ministry states that the subsidy for assistance to the third person will equate to 125.48 euros.
