Do you need to take the Metro today? “Disruptions” expected at this time.

If you plan to travel on the Lisbon Metro this Wednesday, December 3, be advised that a workers’ meeting will take place around lunchtime, potentially causing disruptions in train services.

The announcement was made by the company via a post on social media platform X:

“Today, December 3, from 1:15 PM to 3:45 PM, you may experience disruptions in train services due to a workers’ meeting at the Lisbon Metro,” reads the post shared by the transport company.

A statement published on the Transport and Communications Federation’s (FECTRANS) website indicates that “the unions continue to discuss with workers the demands and mobilization for the general strike” scheduled for December 11.

FECTRANS highlights this Metro meeting, set for 2:00 PM, where the Secretary-General of CGTP-IN is expected to attend, according to the same information shared.

The Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Airport-São Sebastião). Typically, the Lisbon Metro runs from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM.

Lisbon Metro and Unions Sign New Company Agreement

A month ago, it was recalled, the Lisbon Metro and unions signed a new Company Agreement guaranteeing an increase in meal allowances and shorter underground working hours, announced a union source at the time.

In a statement, the Transport and Communications Federation (FECTRANS) stated that the parties reached an agreement on “important matters.”

The Lisbon Metro launched a best practices campaign to reinforce and raise awareness about the significance of individual actions in the collective travel experience under the slogan “Ride the metro with ease. Not recklessly.”

The statement provides examples such as “37 hours and 30 minutes as the maximum work time, ensuring shorter underground hours, as well as increasing the meal allowance to 12 euros from November and 11 euros until then.”

Following the signing, the Company Agreement (CA), approved in a meeting on September 24, will proceed to publication and remain in effect until December 31, 2030.

“We conclude this negotiation chapter of the CA I of 2025 with effective gains for all workers, without any loss of rights,” FECTRANS stated in the release.

Lisbon Metro workers have conducted several meetings and strikes in recent months due to disagreements with the company’s management over the Company Agreement.
