A dog located in the bulbous bow of a merchant ship docked at the northern terminal of the Porto Comercial de Aveiro was rescued on Saturday night, July 19, by members of the Local Command of the Aveiro Maritime Police.
The rescue was part of the operations carried out by the force on-site, as stated in a communiqué from the National Maritime Authority (AMN), sent to newsrooms this Sunday.
The animal was detected at 10:30 PM and was “rescued using a vessel and assisted.”

Last month, a dog isolated on a cliff in the northern coastal area of Peniche was rescued by the crew of the Life-Saving Station and the Local Command of the Maritime Police of that region.
“Upon arrival at the location, elements of the National Maritime Authority verified the dog’s position, providing instructions from the water to the high-angle rescue team of the Fire Department, who proceeded with the animal’s rescue,” reads the note released at the time.
The animal, which was stable, did not “possess any identification system” and was therefore taken to the Municipal Kennel of Peniche.
The Port Captain and the Local Commander of the Peniche Maritime Police coordinated the rescue operation.
