A violent incident was reported in the Santa Maria Maior area of Funchal over the weekend, following a complaint by the victim to police authorities about physical assaults inside their residence, according to a police statement released on Monday.
The Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) highlighted that their quick response ensured the victim’s protection. However, officers had to scale the access wall to the residence to intercept the suspect in the yard.
“Despite resistance from the aggressor, he was subdued and arrested at the scene for the crime of domestic violence,” the PSP noted, adding that the individual was in possession of a bladed weapon and 45 doses of cocaine.
The victim was transported to the hospital with “defensive injuries” on their hands, a result of attempting to repel the attack.
The detainee was brought before a judicial authority on Saturday, resulting in the imposition of compulsory internment at a health facility as a preventive measure.
