The Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of the Azores announced that a man, recently sentenced to a suspended prison term for the same offense, acted violently against his spouse in the presence of the couple’s minor children.
The suspect was detained on Thursday by officers from the Ribeira Grande Police Station, part of the Ponta Delgada Police Division, on strong evidence of committing the crime of domestic violence.
Following a report of a disturbance at a family residence in a parish of the Ribeira Grande municipality, officers quickly arrived at the scene, observing typical signs of physical, emotional, and verbal violence perpetrated by the suspect against his spouse.
While PSP collected information, the suspect continued to issue death threats against the victim and threatened to set the house on fire, circumstances that led to the suspect’s arrest in flagrante delicto.
The case proceeded urgently with the involvement of the competent judicial authorities, and the detainee was subjected to the strictest measure of pre-trial detention.
