Domestic violence: PSP of Évora inaugurates support space for victims

The newly established Espaço M, as indicated in a statement from the police command, emerges from the renovation of the former victim support room, aimed at providing specialized assistance to victims of domestic violence.

“The space has been remodeled to offer a humanized environment designed to welcome victims,” highlighted its fundamental role for the victim support teams of this command in accompanying and supporting victims of domestic violence.

In the statement, Évora’s PSP disclosed that by 2024, it had completed 164 inquiries related to domestic violence crimes, seizing five firearms from suspects as part of these proceedings.

During the first half of this year, there has been a “slight increase” in reports of this type of crime, from 83 to 98, averaging 17 reports of domestic violence crimes per month, it added.

The inauguration of Espaço M, scheduled for 10:00, is a highlight of the commemorative program for the 150th anniversary of the Évora District Command of the Public Security Police, celebrated on Friday.

The program also includes the inauguration of the “Porquê a mim?” exhibition, featuring about 50 pottery pieces by artist Jacira da Conceição, a formal session, and a static exhibition of PSP resources near the Roman Temple of Évora throughout the day.

Regarding other operational results from Évora’s PSP Command for 2024, 160 arrests are notable, primarily stemming from driving under the influence of alcohol and without legal authorization, as well as drug trafficking.

Additionally, the PSP reported on criminal investigations, noting that last year, 1,540 crime inquiries were initiated and 1,528 concluded, with 517 suspects indicted for various crimes.
