The price of carrots rose by 11% in just one week and is now at the highest value of the year, according to a weekly price monitoring report released on Thursday by DECO PROTeste.
“The price of carrots saw the most significant increase last week, as analyzed by DECO PROTeste. Between October 8 and October 15, carrots cost 1.13 euros per kilo, which is 11 cents more per kilo (11% higher) compared to the previous week,” the organization stated.
According to consumer advocacy calculations, “with this increase, this vegetable reaches the highest price of the year,” while “the lowest price was recorded on April 30, when a kilo of carrots cost 99 cents.”
How is the price of the food basket?
The price of the food basket monitored by DECO PROTeste recorded a decrease of 39 cents (down 0.16%) last week and now costs 241.76 euros.
“At the beginning of the year, it cost 5.59 euros less (a decrease of 2.37%). Almost four years ago, on January 5, 2022, when DECO PROTeste started this analysis, it was possible to purchase the same products for 54.06 euros less (down 28.8%),” the released note indicates.

It is still early to outline concrete values, but Deborah Barbosa, president of the Association of Trade and Industry of Baking, believes that the rise in bread prices will align with inflation.
