A double homicide occurred Sunday night in a restaurant in Montijo, Setúbal district, in front of several patrons. The restaurant, O Apeadeiro de Sarilhos, was reportedly operating normally when José Augusto, the suspect, entered the establishment demanding explanations about financial matters. According to the businessman, profits were not distributed equally. The National Republican Guard (GNR) was called to the scene to ease tensions.
José Augusto left but returned shortly after with a firearm. He shot his business partner, Pedro Ganança, 60, and his partner’s son, Lucas Ganança, 22, before fleeing. Witnesses reported the victims managed to move several meters outside seeking help but collapsed outside the restaurant. Emergency teams and authorities were called, and the victims were taken to Barreiro Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

José Augusto is described as having a “conflictual” nature and is reportedly suspected of fraud related to cars, as he also owns a car dealership. Meanwhile, the victims were known as “good people.” O Apeadeiro de Sarilhos, which opened in February, was beloved by locals and often busy, leaving the community shocked by the crime, which took place around 7:55 PM on Sunday. The Judicial Police (PJ) is now handling the investigation.
