An event was held outside the Russian embassy in Lisbon, drawing dozens of people carrying flags of Ukraine, the European Union (EU), and Portugal to commemorate the end of World War II in Europe.
Activists accused Russia of following in the footsteps of Hitler’s regime in Nazi Germany.
Speaking to Lusa, Pavlo Sadokha, president of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, stated that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has persisted for over three years, constitutes a Third World War due to the involvement of North Korean soldiers fighting alongside Russia against Ukraine.
“We can already call this a World War because it has been officially confirmed that North Korean soldiers are fighting alongside the Russians, and once again, Ukraine is at the center, defending Europe against a totalitarian regime which, in our opinion, is no less culpable than Nazi Germany,” Sadokha added.
Regarding the appointment of the new Pope, announced today at the Vatican, and the Church’s role in the conflict, Sadokha expressed that the Pope is a global leader, and since Europe is a predominantly Christian continent, “the Pope’s opinion and actions are crucial for all Christian countries.”
“We know that the new Pope Leo XIV has already spoken of peace, that he wants to establish peace, will advocate for peace, intends to build bridges between all peoples of the world, and we hope he will succeed in this regard and assist us, the Ukrainians and all of Europe, in stopping this terrible war,” he said.
