The deputy commander of the Paço de Arcos Volunteer Firefighters, Sérgio Duarte, reported that divers discovered the victim at approximately 11:40 AM inside the vehicle.
“We are currently attempting to extricate the victim, a man, who is heavily trapped,” Sérgio Duarte explained.
At this time, the number of individuals who were inside the vehicle remains unknown, according to a civil protection spokesperson.
The alert for the accident, which occurred on Avenida Marginal, known as the Monaco Curve, was issued at 7:30 AM, stated the Sub-Regional Command of Greater Lisbon.
By 9:00 AM, 16 responders, including firefighters, Public Security Police (PSP), and Maritime Police, were on the scene with the support of five vehicles.
Initially, Sérgio Duarte informed that the car was “near the rocks, approximately five to ten meters from the coast.”
The official further stated that authorities found a backpack, and according to documents found in a wallet, “it is a 31-year-old man,” who was allegedly driving the vehicle.
Divers from the Portuguese Navy and a boat are on site, along with firefighters from Paço de Arcos and PSP officers from Oeiras. A Navy boat and investigative agents from the same authority are also present, added Sérgio Duarte.
