A 27-year-old woman was detained by the Polícia Judiciária on Wednesday after being caught attempting to smuggle drugs into the Porto Prison.
The inspectors revealed in a statement on Thursday that the incident occurred during visiting hours and involved close cooperation with the Prison Guard Corps.
During access control, guards noticed that the woman had among various items intended for an inmate, a pair of sneakers with a concealed sheet of paper.
Suspecting the “legitimacy” of the paper, the guards contacted the PJ, which, after forensic examination, confirmed the presence of a “strong synthetic cannabinoid.”
The sheet was seized, and the suspect was detained.
The authorities also noted that the woman, who has no criminal record, will now appear for a preliminary judicial interrogation to determine the appropriate preventive measures.
