A 20-year-old man was arrested on Monday, November 10, on suspicion of raping a 13-year-old girl last March in Oeiras.
In a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto, the Judiciary Police (PJ) revealed on Tuesday that the suspect and the victim began communicating in February via Instagram and met in person about a month later.
After spending the day together, the young man offered the minor alcoholic beverages laced with a “toxic substance,” causing her to lose consciousness and become subjected to significant sexual acts, which were repeated when she regained consciousness.
The girl’s parents reported the case to the Public Security Police (PSP), who passed the information to the PJ, as this type of crime falls under their jurisdiction.
Following various “investigative steps” and evidence collection that strongly indicates the young man as the suspect, he was arrested and named a defendant.
The suspect will now face a preliminary judicial hearing to determine the appropriate coercive measures.
