The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested two young men, aged 22 and 25, in the early hours of May 1 for fuel theft and forgery in the Bobadela, São João da Talha area.
The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP reported that the arrest took place at 1:55 AM during routine surveillance for prevention and visibility.
The suspects were “detected and intercepted” while “stealing fuel from a vehicle by puncturing its fuel tank,” according to a statement released on Saturday.
“During initial inquiries, it was additionally observed that the vehicle in which the suspects were traveling had its license plates altered with black tape, also implicating them in the crime of forgery,” the statement added.
The PSP confiscated “several jerrycans containing fuel and various tools used to commit the crime in question.”
The detainees were released after being issued notices to appear before the Judicial Authority.
