The ‘Operation Easter Safety’ campaign by the Public Security Police (PSP) is underway on Portuguese roads, extending until April 21. The PSP has taken to social media to issue several advisories for drivers.
In a post on Facebook, the PSP offered several tips to ensure “safe driving”:
- Do not consume alcohol if you are going to drive;
- Avoid risky behaviors while driving;
- Adjust your driving to road conditions and weather;
- Observe speed limits;
- Always use seat belts and restraint devices;
- Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front;
- Do not use a mobile phone while driving;
On the first day of ‘Operation Easter Safety,’ there were 88 arrests nationwide, 20 of which were for driving without a legal license. Authorities confiscated over 870 doses of drugs and issued more than 600 fines.
The PSP operation has increased their presence in public areas, enhancing their visibility and capacity to prevent criminal activities through community policing, aiming to bolster citizens’ sense of security.
