
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued orange warnings for the Oriental group due to maritime agitation and strong winds, effective from 06:00 to 15:00 on Friday.
Yellow warnings are also in effect from 00:00 to 06:00 on Friday for maritime agitation and wind.
On the Western group islands of Flores and Corvo, the orange warning for wind will be in effect from 06:00 to 15:00 on Friday, revised from its previous time of 06:00 to 09:00.
The Central group, comprising the islands of Terceira, Faial, Pico, São Jorge, and Graciosa, will see a red warning for wind from 00:00 to 09:00 on Friday, updated from 00:00 to 12:00. An orange warning for maritime agitation has been updated from 00:00 to 03:00 on Friday. Another orange warning for wind has been adjusted to 12:00 to 15:00 on Friday from the previous 09:00 to 12:00.
In the Central group, IPMA has also updated the yellow warning for precipitation from 00:00 to 18:00 to now be effective from 09:00 to 15:00 on Friday.
The Azores government has declared a state of alert from 18:00 today until 18:00 on Friday for both the Central and Western groups, restricting certain activities due to the passage of tropical cyclone Gabrielle, as announced by the Regional Government.
Tropical cyclone Gabrielle is expected to pass through the Azores as a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale (which ranges from 1 to 5, with 5 being the most severe), leading to worsening weather conditions starting late today.
