ECOWAS supports Cape Verde with 45.7 thousand euros to develop a plan

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced a grant of $50,000 (€45,700) for the development of a National Infrastructure Plan for Cape Verde, set to cover the period from 2025 to 2040, as stated in an official release by ECOWAS.

The organization is also providing technical assistance through its Project Preparation and Development Unit (PPDU), which will oversee the planning, technical review, and implementation of the plan.

This announcement followed an official visit last week by an ECOWAS delegation to Praia, headed by the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy, and Digitalization, Sediko Douka.

During a ceremony on Thursday of that visit, Cabo Verde’s Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, and Housing, Victor Coutinho, emphasized that the plan “will provide a comprehensive framework covering all sectors of economic and social infrastructures to drive economic development, growth, and regional integration of Cape Verde.”

This initiative comes at a time when ECOWAS is celebrating 50 years of service and regional cooperation.

“As it celebrates this significant anniversary, the commitment to improve the quality of infrastructure services, connectivity, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all citizens across the region remains stronger than ever,” the statement reads.

ECOWAS reaffirmed its commitment to support all member countries in creating effective policies and regulatory frameworks to enhance infrastructure services.

The delegation also expressed its appreciation for Cape Verde’s cooperation and commitment to regional integration and solidarity.

The PPDU team has already conducted technical work sessions with Cabo Verde Infrastructure (ICV) to outline the next steps of the plan.
