Eight arrested for trafficking in Greater Lisbon. Drugs and weapons seized.

Eight individuals were apprehended during a law enforcement operation targeting illicit drug trafficking, conducted on Thursday, July 10, in the Greater Lisbon area, as disclosed by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto on Friday.

In the course of Operation Sísifo, officers executed 22 home search warrants and six outstanding arrest warrants issued by judicial authority, according to the inspectors.

Following the operation, apart from the six individuals apprehended through arrest warrants, two other men were caught “in the act.” Some suspects have previous criminal records for similar offenses.

The PJ further mentioned that the investigation began in 2023, leading to the identification of a criminal organization involved in drug trafficking in the outskirts of Lisbon.

Along with the arrests, the operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 2 kg of hashish, 1,300 grams of MDMA, 1 kg of marijuana, and 600 grams of cocaine. Part of the seized narcotics is currently undergoing analysis at the Scientific Police Laboratory.

Three firearms, hundreds of rounds of various calibers, a substantial amount of cash, four vehicles, precision scales, and other items typically used in drug sales were also confiscated.

The detainees have already appeared for their initial judicial interrogation. The measures of constraint imposed remain undisclosed.
