Contacted by Lusa agency, a source from the District Command of the GNR in Viana do Castelo reported that the alert was issued by a family member and that the case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) “due to unclear circumstances surrounding the couple’s death.”
The same source indicated being unaware if the elderly couple lived alone.
According to a source from the Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Alto Minho, the alert was issued at 09:20 for “a fall of the couple on some stairs.”
Nine operatives and five vehicles from the Viana do Castelo Volunteer Firefighters, INEM, and GNR were at the scene.
